Restoration Support Section

The History & Heritage RSS workshop is housed in a Bellman hangar provided by the RAAF to restore and maintain aircraft and heritage listed artefacts.

The restored items are then showcased to display the history of aviation at RAAF Amberley and the RAAF in South East Queensland in War and Peace.

The Bellman hangar – BLD263 is fitted out with light machinery, metal fabrication and welding bays and a tool store. In addition to these are three aircraft restoration bays and an engine work shop where volunteers conduct the restoration processes safely.

Currently in the workshop:

  • Avro Anson
  • Numerous engines

Process

Our purpose and mission is to provide a professional display of relevant heritage items which reflect and enhance the links between RAAF Base Amberley and the South-East Queensland community.

The team at the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre, especially our volunteers, spend many hours restoring aircraft and other displays that are linked to our local history, for your enjoyment.

We use a defined process to assess, resource and conduct the restoration of aircraft and other items to achieve a pre-determined outcome for the Heritage Centre.
