A3-55 was delivered to the RAAF on 4 August 1967. The aircraft was withdrawn from active service in April 1987 when the RAAF determined that the airframe lifetime has expired.
The aircraft was used as a Training Aid at No.3 Aircraft Depot Surface Finishing School at Amberley until the late 1990s.
During the late 1990s restoration began on the aircraft but was never completed.
In the near future A3-55 will return to the Restoration Hangar to be fully restored into the camouflage colour scheme that the majority of the Mirage fleet were painted during their service in the RAAF.
