This A1-738 Sioux was delivered to the Australian Army and served with distinction in Vietnam.
The aircraft was the last to be delivered and the Bell Helicopter Company wished to present the aircraft to the Army as a gift. Under the rules of the Australian Government, it was explained to the Bell Company that the Army could not accept the gift. Not to be deterred, Bell presented the Government with an invoice for $1.00 but stipulated that A1-738 could not be on sold to a third party and must remain as a Defence asset.
The aircraft is on permanent loan from the Museum of Australian Army Flying (MAAF).
