Sopwith Camel

Sopwith Camel Hero

The replica Camel was restored at Amberley in 2017 and demonstrates the retention of traditional skills of aircraft fabric covering. This aircraft was built by the late Tom Vickers of Victoria and donated by his wife and family.

Located next to the F111 to contrast just how far the RAAF has come, the Camel served over 100 years ago with the Australian Flying Corps late in the First World War, mainly with 4 and 5 SQN, however a few also served with 6 Squadron AFC. 6 SQN RAAF is now located at Amberley and along with 1 SQN, and flew the F111, then Super Hornet and currently Growler.
